Building Project

Updates and photos by Robert Warrick

The roofers had a good day even though it was pretty hot. They were able to continue the roof up to and including the torn area that we have been having to continually patch. They did not use the tar kettle and used adhesive to fasten the sheet goods down. They made good progress and if the weather cooperates they may have the entire roof stripped and the first sheet down by the end of the week. Here are a few photos of the progress.

The site contractor started removing topsoil today. There was a fair amount of dust because of the dry conditions but some rain fell in the afternoon to dampen things a little. People can now see how much larger the parking lot is going to be and there is still a lot of digging to do. Here are some photos of the area.

The trees that were in the HS parking lot have been moved to the east side of the elementary and look good for now. We will do our best to water and care for them and hope they will survive the shock of transplanting.
The Lehn Annex roofers are working hard and if all goes well they may be done by sometime next week.
The site contractor is busy with the driveways and it is starting to look better as you can see at the Athletic Drive parking lot. It will be a few weeks before we really see it take shape and some blacktopping will really look good.
The General Contractor has been tearing out and removing things in several areas and there is quite a mess in some, but that is to be expected. It will get better as we go. The asbestos abatement is scheduled to start this week.
The plumber and electrician crews are busy with their jobs and have people busy.

The project work is in various stages. Most of the demolition has been done. The contractors are working around each other and sometimes with each other to coordinate their activities as needed so each one can get their work done. Sometimes there are delays because of material or unforeseen events that make for some creative flexibility but we are moving forward.

The site work in the Athletic Drive area is really starting to come together. The concrete pads and sidewalks are poured and the contractor will start pavement sidewalks on Monday (July 21) and if the weather cooperates he will start paving the Athletic Drive parking lot on Tuesday (July 22).

The blacktopping of Athletic Drive is in full swing. If the weather had not shut them down today (July 24) they would have completed the installation of the binder and would only have the finish coat left to do. The HS parking lot has had some abatement done and the contractor will soon be able to continue the work there.

The electricians have been busy with the elem parking lot light pole bases and inside wiring of lighting. The plumbers are getting most of the rough in of the floor drains done and will be getting the floors patched soon. Here are a few more pictures of the progress.

Progress is starting to show as we see the blacktop and the sidewalks take shape in the Lehn Annex and Athletic Drive parking lot. Also the contractor is starting to get busy with the front Elementary and High School lots.

The electricians, plumbers and general contractors are nearing the end of their demolition which then will allow us to start getting clean up of several areas started. The abatement of the elementary has started and should be done this week.

The list of things to get done is still long, but there are some walls and patching being done that allows you to start to see the details of what things will look like.

The tennis courts and outside basketball court are being worked on this week and the contractor has been patching and sealing the areas that were bad.

Here are a few more pictures of what has been happening.

Today Athletic Drive was given the last layer of pavement. It went well and the weather cooperated very well. With luck we may get the lines painted and Monday may be the day that it may be opened.

The electricians have been busy with the clock system and the bases for lights in the HS parking lot. The fire and security systems are in process to get started pretty soon.

Plumbers have been changing faucets and going through the building getting their piping completed before the sheetrockers cover the walls.

The handicap bathrooms in the HS now have opening in the masonry walls for the doors. The boys phys ed room also has a hole in the wall for a window that will look into the HS gym. The girls phys ed room will have one probably by the end of tomorrow.

The GC has a contractor painting the Lehn Annex gym walls and working in several areas getting walls covered up and getting the abatement for the Elem finished. They are waiting for the air tests to be analized so they can take their closures and barricades down.

Here are a few more pictures that will help you see what is going on.

It is getting close to school beginning now and the contractors and school personnel are working to get everything settled so we can have a smooth transition from construction mode to a school environment.

There will be a few obstacles, but we will transition through them and accomplish our goals.

The parking will be an issue until the parking lots in front are completed but the back parking lot will be the main access point that we will use for now.
